Need A Fix Of ‘The Boys’? Amazon Delivers A ‘VNN: Vought News Network’ Digital Series To Fill In The Gaps

Need a fix of The Boys before Season 3 arrives next year?  Amazon Prime Video has launched a VNN web series, featuring news reports from the Vought News Network, as seen on the show, featuring Matthew Edison as anchorman Cameron Coleman, who hosts a segment called “Seven on 7.”  In addition to providing fans with a fix of the world of The Boys the VNN digital shorts will also fill in some story details from prior seasons.

VNN, of course, is a parody of the right-wing Fox News network.  The satirical first segment even features a spoof of the My Pillow called “My Sheet.”  The creator and spokesman of My Pillow, Mike Lindell, is a staunch Trump supporter and even financed his own “documentary” called Absolute Proof in which he attempted to prove that the 2020 election was rigged.  (Nearly all of the “facts” he presented in the doc have been proven false.)

Series creator and showrunner Eric Kripke stated:

“Since the very start of The Boys, we’ve seen Vought’s propaganda arm — I mean, news channel — VNN.  We’ll be digging deeper into those fair and balanced patriots next season, so as a teaser, we’re introducing ‘Seven on 7’ with VNN’s biggest star Cameron Coleman. The episodes are in-world canon, serving up brand-new information that bridges the story gap between seasons 2 and 3. So enjoy the hot takes and catheter commercials, just like your parents do!”

The clip also features discussions of the perhaps unreleasable Dawn of the Seven movie, Hughie (Jack Quaid)’s appointment as the FBSA senior analyst thanks to Congresswoman Victoria Newman (Claudia Doumit), a thinly veiled Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pastiche, references to Eagle the Archer (Langston Kerman) and the Church of the Collective and its leader Alistair Adana (Goran Višnjić), sight-impaired hero Blindspot (Chris Mark) who is… um, mysteriously missing (not really), and even a pop music segment in which it seems like Starlight’s power ballad tribute to Translucent is set to break a Top 40 record and beat the record formerly held by supe boyband Super Sweet.  (Am I alone in wishing I could hear this past hit by Super Sweet?  Or see a video?!)

What did you think?  I think it’s kind of interesting to get a layperson’s view of a world populated with superpowered individuals.

Season 3 of The Boys is still filming and will be for a couple more months, so it won’t likely be available to stream until 2022.

But check back for more updates as they become available!
