It’s been nearly two decades since Masters Of The Universe fans had a new series to fawn over, but this year the dry spell comes to an end! This week we got our first real look at the all-new Masters Of The Universe: Revelation, which is set to premiere this summer on the Netflix subscription streaming service.

From the teams at Netflix, Mattel Television, and the creative mind of Silent Bob himself, showrunner Kevin Smith, comes all-new adventures in the world of the 1980s classic Masters Of The Universe. Netflix recently released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming animated series, which was cut to quite possibly the most appropriate song ever imaginable. The trailer, which you can check out below, gives fans their first taste of the freshly updated versions of both He-Man (Chris Wood) and Skeletor (Mark Hamill).

The official synopsis for the show describes it as follows:

The war for Eternia culminates in MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: REVELATION, an innovative and action-packed animated series that picks up where the iconic characters left off decades ago. After a cataclysmic battle between He-Man and Skeletor, Eternia is fractured and the Guardians of Grayskull are scattered. And after decades of secrets tore them apart, it’s up to Teela to reunite the broken band of heroes, and solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power in a race against time to restore Eternia and prevent the end of the universe.

While Masters Of The Universe: Revelation is a new series that should stand just fine on its own, it also will have plenty of callbacks to the original series as it is a direct sequel.

Regarding the series’ place in the MOTU story canon and the timeline of the original show, showrunner Kevin Smith said:

Narratively our show is set up as the next episode in the legacy ‘80s animated series that aired from 1983-1985. This is a continuation of that story. We’re playing with the original mythology and characters, and revisiting and digging deeper into some of the unresolved storylines… But even if you’ve never watched a single episode of the show or don’t know this universe at all, you can jump right into the story. It’s a really classic, universal action-adventure epic about growth, discovery, magic and power. This series explores destiny in a fresh way. There’s a lot of reconciling with secrets, betrayal, trust, acceptance, love and ultimately, loss.

In addition to the teaser trailer for the new show, Netflix also announced a companion series called Revelations: The Masters of the Universe Revelation Aftershow. This series will also premiere alongside Masters Of The Universe: Revelation on Friday, July 23, 2021, on Netflix.

Smith will be joined by actress Tiffany Smith (who is voicing ‘Andra’ on the series) as well as executive producer and Mattel Television VP of Content Creative Rob David.

Part 1 of Masters Of The Universe: Revelation will be premiering on Friday, July 23, 2021, exclusively on the Netflix subscription streaming service. In addition to Chris Wood and Mark Hamill, the show boasts an impressive voice cast including Kevin Conroy, Diedrich Bader, Liam Cunningham, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lena Headey,  Susan Eisenberg, Phil LaMarr, Justin Long, Jason Mewes, Griffin Newman, Cree Summer, Henry Rollins, Stephen Root, Alicia Silverstone, Kevin Michael Richardson, Tony Todd, Harley Quinn Smith, and the legendary Alan Oppenheimer (who was the original voice of Skeletor in the classic animated series).
