Batman fans looking forward to the HBO Max series The Batman can breathe a sigh of relief. Deadline has reported that Joe Barton, writer and creator of the TV series Giri/Haji, will be replacing Terence Winter, who stepped down as showrunner, writer, and executive producer in November.

The Batman is set to be a companion piece to the HBO Max movie of the same name starring Robert Pattinson. The show will explore the corruption in Gotham from the perspective of Gotham’s police department. According to Deadline, Reeves has stated that while the Batman movie will be exploring the Batman Year Two storyline, the show will explore more of Batman Year One.

Batman Year One is a graphic novel by Frank Miller that explores Batman’s first year in Gotham and the reaction of Gotham’s police department (through the eyes of Jim Gordon) to the new masked vigilante in their city. The show and movie will be an interesting exploration into the world of Batman in a live-action setting that will span across multiple platforms.

The Batman (the movie) is tentatively set to be released in theatres later this year.
