The “M” in MTV used to stand for music, back when that was the only way young folks could see music videos, but it appears that it may now stand for “Marvel.”
WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier took home several awards at the MTV Movie and TV Awards, and Marvel’s Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman, won for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom in a role for which he was also nominated for an Academy Award, although he didn’t win that. Boseman, a hero to millions, sadly passed away last August, after a private battle with colon cancer. When his name was announced, the crowd delivered a standing ovation.
WandaVision won for Best Show, Best Performance in a Show for Elizabeth Olsen (who plays Wanda Maximoff/The Scarlet Witch), Best Villain for Kathryn Hahn (a.k.a. Agatha Harkness), and Best Fight for the battle between Wanda and Agatha in the final episode.
Elsewhere in the Marvel Multiverse, Anthony Mackie scored Best Hero for his performance as Sam Wilson/The Falcon/Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Mackie and Sebastian Stan also won for Best Duo.
Scarlett Johanssen, the star of the upcoming Black Widow movie, was honored with the Generation Award, which celebrates diversity in entertainment. Fellow Marvel stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Pratt have also taken this trophy home.
Obviously, MTV has always targeted the youth audience. That is reflected in the Best Movie category. That explains how Best Picture went to To All the Boys: Always and Forever. That’s not shade. But was that really the best picture released in 2020? (I’m old.)
This was just Part 1 of the MTV Movie and TV Awards. The second installment will be dedicated to reality programming. I will not be recapping that, as it kinda doesn’t pertain to this site and I don’t have that much interest in the subject.
But below, you can find all the winners of the scripted half of this awards show.
