In March, it was revealed that Kelly Olsen (Azie Tesfai) would officially don the armor of The Guardian, a role originated by her brother James (Mehcad Brooks) before he departed National City, seemingly for good. James bequeathed his shield to Kelly in Season 5, and she was shown brandishing it during 2019’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event, which you can see below:

Back in March, Supergirl co-showrunner Jessica Queller said (via EW):

“That [has] been our plan since the beginning of creating that role.  We just wanted to find the right context for it, and so it just evolved really beautifully in the context of the social justice stories we wanted to tell [in season 6].”

Now you can catch your first glimpse of Tesfai in The Guardian’s armor:

Kelly will first don the armor in Season 6’s 12th episode, “Blind Spot” which will air on September 21. Tesfai actually co-wrote the episode with co-producer J. Holtman, making her the first actor on the show to have a hand in penning. “Blind Spot” also marks the return of David Ramsey to the Arrowverse.  He directed and will pop up as John Diggle.

Tesfai stated (via EW):

“[Episode] 12, in my opinion, for Kelly, is the most epic episode of the season, so I’m excited to get to pen it.  To have David Ramsey directing the episode… that makes me really excited. Ramsey and I had dinner the other night and just talking about his perspective and experiences; they’re very different than mine. So, I think to have such a well-balanced [group] between me, J., who I’m writing the episode with, and David Ramsey, I think fans will feel really excited and hopefully seen and heard.”

Queller added:

“It’s just going to be a really, I think, emotional, and powerful, and interesting episode that Diggle appears in.”

The Supergirl midseason finale airs Tuesday, May 11 at 9 p.m. and will return on August 24 at 9 p.m.

Check back for updates as they arrive.
