‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’ Submitted To The Emmys As A Drama Not Miniseries Hinting At Future Seasons

Disney has decided to submit The Falcon and the Winter Soldier for Emmy consideration in the category of Drama Series, in contrast to WandaVision which is being submitted in the Miniseries category. That seems to imply that the Falcon and Winter Soldier story won’t come to a complete end when the final episode is released this Friday.

Speaking to IndieWire, Marvel Studios VP of Production and Development Nate More stated:

“…Falcon and Winter Soldier is really about dealing with, to me, the legacy of what a superhero is, through the lens of Captain America and his shield, but ultimately through the lens of all these different characters. And that’s a story I think you can revisit in subsequent seasons because it’s an evergreen story. It’s a conversation.”

It sounds as if this was more than a conversation. If they are submitting this show as a drama series instead of a miniseries, it sounds as though a decision has been reached.

Sebastian Stan has previously expressed interest in returning for a second season.

It had previously been touted that these Marvel shows on Disney+ were standalone stories that would establish elements that would be further embellished on the big screen and we know for sure that Wanda’s story will carry on in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

But thinking about it, there hasn’t been another movie announced that would continue the story set up in The Falcon and Winter Soldier. Disney and Marvel Studios have not yet announced another Avengers or Captain America movie. So it’s very possible that should Sam adopt the Captain America identity in the upcoming episode, that viewers will watch the rest of that journey on Disney+ instead of in theaters.

It has also been teased that Loki could get a sophomore season, and even though it hasn’t even begun production yet, She-Hulk is already being developed as an ongoing series rather than a show that will feed into the movies.

What do you think?  Do you want to see Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan back on the big screen?  Or does the longer TV format seem to be a better vehicle for them?
