Tiffany Haddish To Star In And Produce ‘Mystery Girl’ For Netflix With McG Directing

Tiffany Haddish is set to star in and produce a Netflix original film based on Paul Tobin and Alberto Alburquerque’s Dark Horse comic book series Mystery Girl. Haddish produces under her She Ready Productions banner. The film will also be produced by Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg for Dark Horse Productions, which has a first-look deal with the streaming service, which has already generated the hit series The Umbrella Academy and Jonas Åkerlund’s film Polar.

McG directed the Netflix originals The Babysitter, its sequel, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, and the kids’ zombie flick Rim of the World. Along with Mary Viola, he will also serve as producer via his Wonderland Sound and Vision. McG’s recent films mix horror with comedy, so that should give a clue as to the tone of Mystery Girl.

Here is a description of the Mystery Girl comic:

Dark Horse Comics

Trine Hampstead knows everything. Just knows it. Ask her a question like, “Where are my keys?” or, “Is my husband cheating on me?” or, “How can there be perfectly preserved mammoths in the ice of Siberia when the ice isn’t that old?” and she just knows the answer. She’s the Mystery Girl. The only thing she doesn’t know is anything about the last ten years of her own life, including what happened to give her this ability. But that’s a mystery for later. The mystery, for now, is about those mammoths. Trine knows why they’re there but surprises anyone who knows Trine by demanding to leave her London-based sidewalk detective set up to go to Siberia with the archaeological team to see them for herself. And close behind is a vicious killer who is targeting her for reasons even Trine doesn’t know.

Haddish will, of course, portray Trine. However, the show’s setting will be shifted from London to Los Angeles. It looks as though the Siberia/mammoth storyline will be dropped in favor of a plot in which Trine and a “down on his luck” LAPD officer named Cooper find themselves framed for murder.

Haddish’s voice was most recently heard in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, which was just released via HBO Max. Her most recent live-action film was the crime drama On the Count of Three. She is currently filming Kids Say the Darndest Thing for CBS and will next be seen in Netflix’s Bad Trip.

McG may be best known for directing Charlie’s Angels and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.  He has also served as executive producer for TV hits such as The O.C., Chuck, Nikita, The Mysteries of Laura, Lethal Weapon, Shadowhunters, and Supernatural.

Are you a fan of the Mystery Girl comic book?  Are you looking forward to seeing it adapted to a film on Netflix?
