That cast of Dungeons & Dragons continues to inflate, as Hugh Grant and Sophia Lillis are the latest additions. While not much is known about the film or its plot, it is known that Grant is playing the film’s antagonist, named Forge Fletcher. It’s not known what type of character Lillis is playing, but she is named Doric.

Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Game Night) are co-directing and co-wrote the screenplay, based on an earlier draft by Michael Gilio. The movie adaptation of the Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro tabletop roleplaying game hails from Paramount and eOne, a division of Hasbro, who have previously produced the GI Joe and Transformers franchises.

The impressive cast also includes Chris PineMichelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, and Regé-Jean Page.  Nothing about their roles has been revealed. It isn’t even known, at this time, if Dungeons & Dragons is a straight fantasy film or if somehow it will incorporate elements of the real roleplaying game.

Star-on-the-rise, Lillis is best known for playing young Beverly Marsh in It and It: Chapter Two, but she has also headlined the movies Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase and Gretel & Hansel, and the Netflix series I Am Not Okay With This, which was unjustly canceled after just one season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She also co-starred on the acclaimed HBO miniseries Sharp Objects. Most recently, she co-starred with Paul Bettany in the Amazon Prime Video original film Uncle Frank. She is also attached to star in two upcoming productions, The Burning Season and The Thicket.

Grant has had a lengthy and varied career, first gaining attention in the 1990s in films such as The Remains of the Day, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Nine Months, Sense and Sensibility, and Notting Hill. His career continued to flourish in the 2000s in such projects as Bridget Jones’s Diary (and its sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason), About a Boy, and Love Actually. More recently, he was seen in last year’s HBO Max miniseries The Undoing and the Netflix comedy film Death to 2020.

Dungeons & Dragons already has a theatrical release date — May 27, 2022. Check back for updates as they arrive.
