After more than three decades, Tim Drake fans will finally get to see Batman‘s third Robin brought to life in live-action for the very first time!

As Warner Bros. is preparing to start filming the third season of its live-action Titans adaptation for their HBO Max streaming service, they have added Tim Drake to the list of characters that have made their live-action debut in the series. Drake will be played by actor Jay Lycurgo in the series.

While it hasn’t yet been confirmed that Tim will actually become Robin in this season of the show, it stands to reason that he may wear that domino mask sooner rather than later considering the rate that the previous Robins have moved forward with their lives.

Season 1 of Titans saw the first Robin, Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites), leave his life with Batman behind to strike out on his own. He was soon joined by his replacement, the second Robin Jason Todd (Curran Walters). With two Robins running around, Grayson decided to retire from the role and take up the mantle of Nightwing in Season 2. It has already been announced that Jason Todd will be transitioning into the role of The Red Hood in Season 3 of the show, which means there will be plenty of room for someone new to wear that yellow ‘R’ logo.

The Tim Drake we will be meeting in Titans Season 3 is said to be a recurring role, rather than a starring one, so it is entirely possible we will only get a brief appearance of Jay Lycurgo in the role.

The comic book version of Tim Drake is the third person to carry the Robin mantle. Drake is a streetwise teen who holds onto a strong sense of optimism and hopefulness even though he knows how dark and dangerous the world can be. He has a genius-level intellect and is arguably the world’s greatest detective, second only to Batman himself. Tim Drake is also one of the only people to ever piece together Batman’s secret identity all on his own by following the evidence, which is a testament to his intelligence and his investigative abilities.

Jay Lycurgo is a relatively new actor to the industry. You can see him in the HBO original series I May Destroy You and the Amazon short Father Of The Bride if you want to get a better feel for him as an actor. Perhaps it is even more exciting that he has a supporting role in The Batman from director Matt Reeves, although it is unlikely that he is also playing Tim Drake in that film.

Tim Drake isn’t the only Bat-Family member to be joining Titans for its third season, as Savannah Welch has also recently been announced as playing Barbara Gordon in the new season. In the comics, Barbara Gordon was the first Batgirl. The character was critically injured and paralyzed from the waist down after a way too close encounter with The Joker. The hero found herself wheelchair-bound and took up the name Oracle as she became the online eyes and ears for the rest of the Bat-Family.

Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s Titans stars Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter, Minka Kelly, Alan Ritchson, Conor Leslie, Curran Walters, Chelsea Zhang, Joshua Orpin, and Damaris Lewis. The first two seasons of Titans are available for streaming on HBO Max, with Season 3 set to release later this year.
