Last week, reports surfaced stating that Chris Evans would reprise his role as Captain America in the MCU despite an arguably perfect finale for the character in Avengers: Endgame. Since then, many fans have speculated as to how Steve Rogers would pop up again. Countless True Believers weighed in, but now we hear from the Star Spangled Man himself. And it may not be the response that you’re looking for.
Following the numerous headlines touting the news that Evans would wield the shield once again, the actor took to Twitter with a simple post. Though he doesn’t directly state what he’s referring to, based on the timing of the tweet, it’s fairly safe to assume what he’s talking about.

After getting his feet wet in the House of Ideas’ pool as the Human Torch in the 2005 Fantastic Four film, Evans officially entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Sentinel of Liberty in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger.’ He went on to star in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, as well as The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Avengers: Infinity War before seemingly taking a bow in Avengers: Endgame.
But if these reports turn out to be true and the star was simply playing coy since nothing was announced officially at the time that he sent his tweet, the big question is how Evans will return for these rumored cameo appearances. Will he be Captain America in all his youthful glory? Will that Cap be from an alternate dimension that we see in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? Or would he be appearing in a flashback? What if he will simply be Old Man Rogers to offer his friends Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes some helpful advice occasionally on the upcoming Disney+ series Falcon and the Winter Soldier?
And then there’s the other big question: Does Captain America need to physically be there to play a part of the MCU going forward? Kevin Feige is basically the only one that truly has the answers right now.
