We hope you’re all ready to spend a lot of time in a galaxy far, far, away! The team at Lucasfilm has yet another all new Star Wars television series in the works for Disney+; Star Wars: Rangers Of The New Republic!
Recently at the Disney Investor Day presentation, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced a number of brand new projects set in the Star Wars universe. It sounds like they’re trying out a number of different ideas for different projects to see what will work best as they further expand upon the Star Wars brand.
While a number of these projects give a fairly clear idea of what they will be about, the one that stands clear as an outlier is Rangers Of The New Republic. Very few details have been released about this new series beyond that it is a spinoff of The Mandalorian and is set in the same era of the Star Wars timeline as that show.
The show is being developed by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, who are the same masterminds behind The Mandalorian and it’s other upcoming spinoff Ahsoka.
While no actual plot details about the Rangers Of The New Republic series have been released, many are assuming that this show may very well be the long rumored series that would follow The Mandalorian‘s Cara Dune character, who is played by Gina Carano.
Carano has been in the headlines a number of times in recent months over controversial remarks she made on social media, making herself into a bit of a pariah with the Star Wars fanbase. There have been several petitions circulating that are calling for the actress to be removed from The Mandalorian, so it seems like an odd choice to instead give the actress her own series at this time considering the controversy.
Alternatively, the series could simply be something else entirely. Maybe a space police procedural set amid the Star Wars universe? It’s a pretty big galaxy, so there are plenty of directions this show could go in.
While no release date has been confirmed yet at this time, Star Wars: Rangers Of The New Republic is set to be available exclusively on the Disney+ streaming service when it releases.
