‘Star Wars’ Ahsoka Gets A Show-ka

Let me start by apologizing for that awful pun headline. I couldn’t help myself. But more importantly, the animated Star Wars fan favorite Ahsoka Tano is getting her very own live-action television series on Disney+!

Ahsoka Tano has been an immediate favorite since making her debut in the 2009 CG-animated Clone Wars movie. While the film itself wasn’t super well received, Ahsoka was welcomed by the fanbase with open arms as a breath of fresh air. As her character developed over the course of both The Clone Wars television series and the Star Wars: Rebels television series, Ahsoka has grown to become as beloved as any of the Star Wars films major characters.

The character recently made her live-action debut last month in the first ever live-action Star Wars television series, The Mandalorian, with Rosario Dawson stepping into the role. Needless to say, the fans went absolutely nuts over the episode, with many calling it the series best yet. The big question on everyone’s mind though is, when would we see Ahsoka Tano again?

Rather than returning in later episodes of The Mandalorian (that we know of), Lucasfilm has decided to expand her story in a new live-action television series of her very own on the Disney+ streaming service.

The new series, simply titled Ahsoka, was announced by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy during the Disney Investor Day presentation this week. It is being developed by The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni; the latter of which created the Ahsoka Tano character.

Ahsoka is to be set during the same era of the Star Wars timeline as The Mandalorian, but as her plot connection to Din Djarin (aka The Mandalorian, played by Pedro Pascal) and the newly named Grogu, it seems that they may have parted ways for good following her brief appearance on that show.

Dave Filoni has teased that The Mandalorian episodes we have seen so far may have occurred before the finale of Star Wars: Rebels, so it is entirely possible that we may see some more fan favorite characters from that show making their live-action debut in this series. Especially with Ahsoka name-dropping Grand Admiral Thrawn during her guest spot on The Mandalorian, it’s almost guaranteed that we will be seeing him make an appearance in her new series. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed that other Rebels favorites like Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren make the jump to live-action as well and truly solidify their status among Star Wars canon.

Ashoka has not yet been given a release date, but is set to be available for streaming exclusively on Disney+ when it does eventually release.
