The wait may be nearly twice as long between the second and third Guardians Of The Galaxy sequels as it was the first and second film, but it sounds like Disney and Marvel Studios are doing everything they can to make it worth the wait!
Today at the Disney Investor Day presentation the Walt Disney Company confirmed that fans can expect to see Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 hitting theaters in the distant future of 2023. The film is expected to begin shooting in late 2021.
While the release date may seem farther away than any of us want it to be, Disney is offering us a consolation prize in the form of an all new live-action Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, set for release in 2022.
Fan favorite Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise writer and director James Gunn, who is apparently a fan of the abysmally awful classic 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, is once again handling writing and directing for this unique, feature length project that is will be available for streaming exclusively on Disney+.
Of all the Marvel franchises to tackle a silly premise like a holiday special, James Gunn and the Guardians Of The Galaxy certainly seem like the best fit for the job. It’s cheesy, it’s fun, and it’s exactly the sort of weird we’ve come to expect from the rag tag heroes of the Guardians team. Did we mention that James Gunn has already confirmed that this new Holiday Special is officially canon to the MCU?
We are definitely excited to see what holiday jingles Starlord has stashed on his Zune media player, and can’t wait to see what kind of ornaments the gang tries to hang on what we imagine will be a very uncooperative Groot.
