It’s been a big day for Disney. Their 4-hour Investor Call kicked off this afternoon and the announcements have caused massive waves through social media. Luckily, we Marvel fans weren’t left in the lurch; Kevin Feige himself gave us the skinny on a bunch of the live-action series coming to Disney+ soon as well as what’s going into development. But not all of the Disney+ stuff is live-action, and in fact, we got a quick look at Marvel’s animated series, What If…? Check it out above!
The premise behind What If…? is simple. The series will take familiar events and change one aspect about them. What if… Peggy Carter was given the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers? What if… Yondu picked up T’Challa instead of Peter Quill? What If…? traces its roots back to the 1970s with a comic series of the same name and is one of my favorite series ever. I love stories of alternate timelines, so I am hyped for this to drop on Disney+.
Not only am I excited for the stories, but the talent behind them is top-notch. Many of the biggest stars of the MCU are reprising their roles for the animated series, such as Hayley Atwell, Samuel L. Jackson, and Chris Hemsworth. On top of that, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) has been tapped to voice Uatu the Watcher, the character through whom we experience these alternate stories.
What If…? will hit Disney+ in the summer of 2021.
