It seems that every day the headlines get crazier, so today should be no exception. Alfred Molina has reportedly joined the cast of the upcoming untitled third Spider-Man film as Doctor Otto Octavius!

If the name sounds familiar, that is because Molina famously portrayed the character, better known as the villainous Doctor Octopus, in the original Spider-Man film trilogy’s Spider-Man 2 opposite Tobey Maguire in the titular role. Many consider Spider-Man 2 to be one of the best comic book film adaptations of all time, and Alfred Molina’s fan-favorite performance certainly played a big part in the film’s success.

Now that Molina is strapping on his iconic metal tentacles again for the first time in nearly two decades, it all but confirms the recent rumors that the new Spider-Man film will feature all three live-action versions of everyone’s favorite wallcrawler from across the character’s cinematic history. Molina was first rumored to have been spotted on the set of the new Spider-Man film as early as last month (as reported by GWW), but this had not been confirmed until now.

Jamie Foxx, another previous Spider-Man villain who starred as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 during the Andrew Garfield era of the character in 2014, has also been reported to have joined the film’s cast back in October. In a since-deleted post on his Instagram account, Foxx had also suggested that we could see all three different versions of the live-action Spider-Man appearing in the upcoming film.

As of the time of this writing, both Sony and Marvel Studios have had no comment regarding this casting. But hey, no denial is almost as good as a confirmation, right?

The currently untitled third Spider-Man solo film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently filming and is being produced by Sony in collaboration with Marvel Studios. It has a planned release date of December 17, 2021, so we will certainly find out for sure within the next year just how many Spider-Men we may see in the upcoming film! Tom Holland is set to star in the film, marking his sixth appearance as Spider-Man in the MCU and his third solo Spider-Man film.

Fans can also expect to see Spider-Man franchise regulars like Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori back for the new film, plus Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is set to make an appearance. Jon Watts, who helmed Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, is back behind the camera to direct the web-slinging hero’s third solo adventure.
