‘Frozen’ Director Jennifer Lee Confirms There May Be A Third Sequel

The Chief Creative Officer of Disney Animation, Jennifer Lee, who co-directed both previous Frozen movies, has backed up Bob Iger’s earlier tease that the franchise may actually get a fourth installment and even revealed the reason why.

In an interview, Lee discussed the already officially announced Frozen 3 and hinted at a potential follow-up.

“Only what we have already shared, which is the team is hard at work, we are deeply excited about the story we are shaping together, and it’s so epic it may not fit into just one film.”

Hmmm, does that mean they will separate their various ideas into two movies or will this be a “Part 1” and “Part 2” situation?  Hopefully, the former.

Lee further commented on the appeal of this magical franchise while also plugging the new attraction, World of Frozen, at Disneyland Hong Kong.

“I believe it’s both the story of familial love with these two sisters, and the idea of love conquering fear… I recently visited World of Frozen, and it is awe-inspiring. You are a citizen of Arendelle the moment you walk into the land.”

Just weeks ago, Iger stated:

Frozen 3 is in the works and there might be a Frozen 4 in the works, too. But, I don’t have much to say about those films right now.  But Jenn Lee who created Frozen, the original Frozen and Frozen 2, is hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but actually two stories.”

Due to her new position, Lee will not direct the new sequels.  But she is involved… or is she?

“They carved out time for me to work with the creative team on it. And I’m blown away.  I’m so excited. I don’t know what I’m doing on it yet. I might be doing nothing.”

Disney announced that Frozen 3 was in the works along with new sequels to Toy Story and Zootopia.

While many bemoan the neverending string of sequels from Hollywood overall, after a recent string of disappointing new releases, it may be a good financial decision for Disney to keep cranking out follow-ups to brands that have already proven successful.

Frozen won the Academy Award for Best Animated Picture and Best Original Song for “Let It Go.”  Frozen 2‘s “Into the Unknown” was nominated for Best Original Song.
