‘Stranger Things’ Universe Expands With Animated Series

Netflix’s hit sci-fi/horror series Stranger Things may be ending after its upcoming fifth season, but the show’s universe won’t be disappearing any time soon. An untitled animated series set in the Stranger Things universe has received a straight-to-series order from the streaming juggernaut.

The Duffer brothers, the masterminds behind Stranger Things, serve as executive producers for this upcoming animated series under their production company Upside Down Pictures. Flying Bark’s Felipe A. Dieppa and Eric Robles will also serve as executive producers. Meanwhile, the live-action series’ executive producers Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps are also on board for the animated series. Both Upside Down Pictures and 21 Laps currently have overall deals with Netflix.

The Duffer brothers have promised that this new animated series will be in the vein of “Saturday morning cartoons“:

“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday-morning cartoons that we grew up loving and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling. We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you.

“The adventure continues… ”

Fans are eager to know if any of the original cast members will lend their voices to the animated version of the series. Details regarding the characters in the show are still being kept under wraps. No specifics about this new series have been released.

In addition to the animated series, the Duffer brothers are also busy working on other projects related to Stranger Things. A stage prequel titled The First Shadow is set to debut in London’s West End in late 2023.

Moreover, there is a spin-off in the works based on an original idea from the Duffers. The only hint we have so far is that it will be “1000% different” from the original show. Only Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler in the series, knows the concept.

The announcement of these new projects has left fans excited and eager to see what the Duffer brothers have in store for them. Stranger Things has been a phenomenon since its debut in 2016. Its success has only grown over the years. It’s exciting to see the world of Hawkins, Indiana, expand beyond the original series, and fans can’t wait to see what other surprises are in store.

While the end of Stranger Things may be bittersweet for fans, the upcoming animated series, prequel stage show, and spin-off series show that the Duffer brothers have plenty of tricks up their sleeves to keep us entertained for years to come. So, stay tuned for more information about the animated series and other Stranger Things-related projects in the coming months!
