Hold onto your pottery wheels because Channing Tatum just dropped a bombshell of a remake announcement! During an interview with Vanity Fair, the actor-producer revealed that his production company Free Association has acquired the rights to the classic 1990 romance film Ghost from Paramount Pictures… all while getting in touch with his artistic side during a pottery lesson. “Now I know why they put [pottery-making] in Ghost,” he joked. “This whole process is very, very sexual.”
But before you start getting all nostalgic and misty-eyed over memories of Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore’s on-screen chemistry, Tatum teased this won’t be the same movie we know and love. Not only will he be taking on Swayze’s iconic role of Sam Wheat, but he also plans to put his own spin on the story as the original film contained some problematic stereotypes. “We’re going to do something different,” he said. “I think it needs to change a little bit.”
What Is The Movie Ghost About?
For those who may need a refresher, Ghost follows the love story of Sam (Swayze) and Molly (Demi Moore). Just when things seem to be going well, tragedy strikes when Sam is brutally murdered. Since his spirit is unable to leave this world, he wanders the earth staying close to Molly. When he learns it is his corrupt business partner Carl (Tony Goldwyn) that ordered the hit, Sam is determined to protect Molly and seek justice with the help of psychic Oda Mae “you in trouble, girl” Brown (Whoopi Goldberg).
The original Ghost was a massive success, grossing over $500 million worldwide and earning two Academy Awards. It was not only the highest-grossing film of 1990 but also the third-highest-grossing film of all time at the time of its release.
