Get ready, Wednesday fans! The horror comedy series has just been renewed for a second season on Netflix.

If you’re not already familiar with Wednesday, allow me to fill you in. The show follows the titular character, played by Jenna Ortega, as she navigates her years at Nevermore Academy while attempting to master her emerging psychic abilities and solve a supernatural mystery that has been plaguing her family for 25 years. Oh, and did I mention there’s also a monstrous killing spree terrorizing the town? No big deal.

The eight-episode first season debuted on Nov. 23. The following week, Netflix announced that the series had set a new record for the most hours viewed for an English language series in its first week, with over 341 million hours. This made it the second biggest English language season of television on Netflix, behind Stranger Things Season 4.

Besides the massive viewership numbers, what really set Wednesday apart in its first season was its viral dance sequence on TikTok. The YouTube clip of this dance has been viewed over 33 million times on Netflix’s channel alone. It’s no wonder the show has become so popular on the streaming platform, with over 1.2 billion hours viewed in its first 28 days.

Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are understandably thrilled about the renewal, saying in a statement:

It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world. Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.

In an interview with THR, Gough teased what’s to come in Season 2, saying that the show will “explore and complicate all of those relationships going forward” and will focus on Wednesday’s relationships with Enid (played by Emma Myers) and her mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones).

If you haven’t already binged the entire first season of Wednesday, now is the perfect time to catch up before Season 2 debuts on Netflix.

Happy streaming!
