Mckenna Grace Confirms Return For ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Sequel

Sony revealed in April that it was moving forward with a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was released last fall after multiple COVID-related delays. Perhaps also due to the coronavirus, Afterlife was only a moderate success, but it seems that Sony sees the potential in the franchise to generate more excitement going forward.

Jason Reitman will return to direct the next Ghostbusters installment after having helmed Afterlife, taking over for his father, Ivan Reitman, who directed the original two Ghostbusters movies in the 1980s.

Grace confirmed that she had spoken to Jason Reitman about the upcoming sequel, but that he had spilled nothing. Speaking to ComicBook.com, Grace divulged:

“I literally have no ounce of a clue what the story is.  I’m just excited to do a second one.  I’m just excited to be Phoebe.”

In Afterlife, Grace played Phoebe, the granddaughter of Egon Spengler, Harold Ramis’ character in the original Ghostbusters pics. With her mother Callie (Carrie Coon) and older brother Trevor (Finn Wolfhard), Phoebe moved from Chicago to the small town of Summerville, Oklahoma, where Egon had retired after his days with the O.G. Ghostbusters.

Paul Rudd co-starred as Phoebe’s teacher Gary Grooberson.  Logan Kim portrayed Phoebe’s friend Podcast, while Celeste O’Connor appeared as Summerville native Lucky Domingo.

O.G. cast members Bill Murray (Peter Venkman), Dan Aykroyd (Raymond “Ray” Stantz),
Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore), Sigourney Weaver (Dana Barrett), and Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz) reprised their roles.

Afterlife ended by setting up a potential sequel, so it’s not surprising that it has been confirmed that one is in development. It remains to be seen when this picture will arrive or what it will be about. It’s also unknown what other cast members will return, but it’s at least likely that Coon, Wolfhard, Rudd, Kim, and O’Connor will be back.

Mckenna Grace can currently be seen in the true crime Peacock miniseries Friend of the Family. In much lighter fare, Grace will be seen next in the Disney+ original science fiction film Crater.

Are you excited to see another adventure of this new generation of Ghostbusters?
