Flex Your Mental Muscles For The Pokémon GO Psychic Spectacular

Source: Niantic

It’s officially Day 1 of the Pokémon GO Season of Light, and though we knew that the season would include a Psychic Spectacular event, we were left in the dark as to what it entailed. However, Niantic just dropped the details of the event, and it looks like it’ll be fun.

Beginning at 10 am local time on September 6th, the Psychic Spectacular will celebrate those Pokémon augmented with telepathic abilities. Psychic type Pokémon will be appearing more frequently in the wild. Those Pokémon include:

  • Abra
  • Slowpoke
  • Drowzee
  • Natu
  • Ralts
  • Spoink
  • Munna
  • Woobat
  • Gothita
  • Solosis
  • Elgyem
  • Kadabra
  • Kirlia

Shiny hunters rejoice, as the shiny forms of  Abra, Slowpoke, Drowzee, Natu, Ralts, Spoink, Munna, and Woobat will all be available. What’s more, Elgyem will make its shiny debut in the game, which is hype.

Raids and 7km eggs will switch over to match the theme. Hatching from 7km eggs will be Smoochum and Wynaut—both of which can be shiny—and Chingling—which still can’t be shiny.

Espurr will be coming back to one-star raids along with its shiny version. Besides Espurr, you can battle three versions of Unown—E, P, and S (get it?)—which unfortunately cannot be shiny.

Three-star raids will contain Alolan Raichu, Wobbuffet, Girafirig (all can be shiny), and Oranguru (not shiny).

Deoxys will stay in Five-star raids, and yes, still available shiny in all four forms. As previously revealed, Deoxys will also have a dedicated Raid Day on Sunday, September 11, where all gyms will have a Five-star raid, giving shiny hunters a good chance at finding that yellow Deoxys.

When it comes to Mega raids, the speculation was correct and Mega Alakazam will make its debut. Mega Alakazam is, of course, the Mega version of the spoon-wielding Pokémon and one of the most memorable psychic type from the first generation of the game. What’s more is that players have the chance to encounter a shiny Alakazam after completing the raid.

Finally, themed field research tasks will be part of the event giving trainers the chance to encounter Baltoy, Chimeco, and Elgyem, all of which can be shiny. Hypno will also be a research reward for certain tasks, but it cannot be shiny.

There will also be an event specific time-research line that will give multiple encounters with Elgyem, which ups the chance for players to encounter that shiny.

With everything planned for next week, there’s sure to be some hardcore grinding going on. What are you most excited for during the Psychic Spectacular?
