R.L. Stine Adaptation ‘Zombie Town’ Reunites Dan Aykroyd And Chevy Chase

Comedy legends Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase are reteaming after more than 30 years.  The duo, which starred in Spies Like Us (above) in 1985, 1988’s Caddy Shack 2, and Nothing But Trouble in 1991, will reunite for an adaptation of R.L. Stine‘s Zombie Town, which is already in production in Ontario, Canada.  This appears to be a theatrical film, not one aimed at a streaming service.

Chase’s deal is being finalized.  Considering that the film is already shooting, it’s a safe bet that his role isn’t that major.  That’s in addition to the fact that Stine’s novels are aimed at a teen/tween audience.  (Do teens and tweens even know who Aykroyd and Chase are?)

As it turns out, the movie does focus on teen characters Mike, who is a projectionist at the local movie theater, and Amy, who is Mike’s crush and a zombie movie enthusiast.  According to Trimuse Entertainment, which is producing the film, Mike tries to gain favor from Amy by showing her the latest zombie movie by her favorite director only to discover that the film is cursed and transforms everyone in their town, except for them, into the undead.

Marlon Kazadi, who has appeared on Riverdale and Supergirl, will portray Mike.  Social media influencer, Madi Monroe will play Amy.  The film will also include appearances by Scott Thompson and Bruce McCulloch, who are members of The Kids in the Hall comedy troupe, who had their own TV sketch comedy series from 1989 until 1995 and was revived earlier this year on Amazon Prime Video.

Trimuse Entertainment founder and executive producer John Gillespie stated:

“We are delighted to bring the pages of R.L. Stine’s Zombie Town to the screen and equally thrilled to be working with such an exceptional cast and crew on this production.  A three-time Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award winner with book sales of over $500 million, R.L. Stine has a phenomenal track record of crafting stories that engage and entertain audiences.”

Aykroyd and Chase planned to work together again in 2012, although that movie never came to fruition.  However, at that time, Aykroyd stated:

“The joy of working with him again is one that I am extremely excited about. Chevy is one of my favorite people, and one of the great anarchistic and physically committed comedians in the business.”

Stay tuned for updates!  Are you excited to see Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase on the big screen again?
