HBO Max’s The House of the Dragon was so popular that it crashed the streaming service, even though reportedly, this Game of Thrones prequel was housed on its own server. With all eyes on this program, HBO Max took “max”-imum advantage and used it to promote a slew of its other original shows that were coming up with a coming soon montage video, which highlighted such series as White Lotus, Succession, and more. But clearly, Warner Bros. has the most faith in the adaptation of the video game The Last of Us, which capped off the reel.
This is the first footage from The Last of Us, the TV series, which stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Nick Offerman’s Bill also pops up. You can watch the whole presentation below, with the Last of Us material coming in at 1:40:
As you can see, the dialogue is limited with Ellie cautioning, “Everybody I have cared for has either died or left me,” to which Joel replies, “You have no idea what loss is.”
The game takes place in a zombie apocalypse with Joel being hired to smuggle the 14-year-old Ellie into a quarantine zone. He discovers that Ellie may hold the key to saving humanity and the duo embark on a cross-country mission, fending off both mutated zombies and cutthroat human survivors.
Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, who voiced Ellie and Joel in the video game, are reported to appear in live-action on the TV show and will be playing “major roles.” And they won’t be alone. Merle Dandridge, who played Marlene, the leader of the resistance group The Fireflies in the game, will play the same role on the show. Jeffrey Pierce, who voiced Joel’s brother Tommy in the games, will play a different character named Perry, who appears to be a new character created for the show. Gabriel Luna will play Tommy in the series.
The cast also includes Nico Parker as Joel’s daughter Sarah, Murray Bartlett as Frank, Anna Torv as Tess, and Storm Reid as Riley.
