Locke & Key has proven to be a hit for Netflix, but all good things must come to an end. Based on the comic book series by Joe Hill with art by Gabriel Rodríguez, this program mixes horror with fantasy and a coming of age story. Now get ready for time travel to enter the equation.
Season 2 actually wrapped up the story from the 37-issue original comic book. It should be interesting to see what this third season adds. It appeared that Doge had been vanquished but as this trailer hints, Dodge isn’t gone for good. However, a new villain is also introduced, a British Revolutionary War captain played by Kevin Durand.
Netflix has announced that the final season will be directed by Guy Ferland (Yellowstone, Elementary), Edward Ornelas (The Resident, Bull), Marisol Adler (Manifest), and Jeremy Webb (The Umbrella Academy), with each tackling two episodes a piece. Hill, himself, will pen some episodes, while showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill will pen the final installments.
Back in 2020, Netflix‘s vice president of overall deals, Brian Wright, announced:
“[EPs] Carlton [Cuse] and Meredith [Averill] have built an incredible world in Locke & Key, and we’re excited to have the Lockes return for more in the third season. We have some incredible adventures in store for the Locke family in Season 3 and could not be more excited to continue telling our story with our great partners at Netflix.”
Cuse followed up, saying:
“We have some incredible adventures in store for the Locke family in Season 3 and could not be more excited to continue telling our story with our great partners at Netflix.”
Locke & Key follows matriarch Nina Locke (Darby Stanchfield) and her three kids, Tyler (Connor Jessup), Kinsey (Emilia Jones), and Bode (Jackson Robert Scott), after the death of the family’s patriarch Rendell (Bill Heck) as they move into Rendell’s family’s ancestral home, where the kids discover a series of keys that unlock portals to other dimensions and unique powers within the kids themselves.
