We are less than a year away from the release of Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3! Filming has wrapped on the movie, and little by little, more information is becoming available. While the film already bolsters an impressive ensemble cast, writer and director James Gunn has not been shy about bringing even more talent onboard the project.
This week, we learned about not one, not two, but three new high-profile additions to the cast. Joining the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe next year are Maria Bakalova, Nico Santos, and Daniela Melchoir. Their roles are all currently under wraps, so feel free to start speculating away as to who they might be playing!
Maria Bakalova is a rising star from Bulgaria. She earned worldwide attention and an Oscar Nomination for Best Supporting Actress in her role opposite Sacha Baron Cohen in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (2021). She followed up with a role in the Netflix fan-favorite film The Bubble (2022) and the upcoming A24 horror comedy film Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022).
A familiar face to many, due to his lengthy stint on NBC’s Superstore (2015-2021), is Filipino-American actor Nico Santos. Santos is a critical darling. Following numerous Critics Choice Awards nominations for Best Supporting Actor and an HCA award win for the same category, Santos would go on to shine in the award-winning Crazy Rich Asians (2018). Aside from his new role in the MCU, Santos will be appearing in the upcoming film The Re-Education Of Molly Singer (2022) with Ty Simpkins.
We all fell in love with her as Ratcatcher 2 in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad (2021), so it is certainly exciting to see Daniela Melchior returning for his next big project. Gunn has yet to say who Melchior will be playing. He did, however, confirm that she will not be playing the cosmic Marvel character Moondragon despite speculations.
In addition to these new cast members, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) will also star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sylvester Stallone, Sean Gunn, Elizabeth Debicki, Will Poulter, and Chukwudi Iwuji.
Story details for the threequel are still non-existent. Although, it has been long-rumored that our rag-tag team of misfits will be facing off with legendary Marvel cosmic characters, including The High Evolutionary and Adam Warlock. In addition, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is expected to be a final send-off for many of our favorite characters.
