Everyone talks about George Lucas’s fantasy masterpiece Star Wars, but what about his other big fantasy project? Yes, it’s time to, once again, talk about Willow (1988), Lucas’s forgotten son of a franchise set in a high-fantasy world full of magic and wonder. It’s been over three decades since the original Willow film was released. Now, after all this time, the team at Lucasfilm has finally decided to grace the world with more adventures with an all-new live-action streaming series on Disney+!
While the series was formally announced last year, at this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, CA, the first trailer for the new show was unleashed upon the world during the Lucasfilm Showcase panel! The trailer gives audiences the first glimpse of what to expect with the new series and introduces us to new faces while bringing back at least one very familiar one. Check out the trailer below!
Another Adventure For Willow
Set 200 years after the events of Willow (1988), Willow (2022) is a direct sequel to the original film and even sees screen legend Warwick Davis returning to the titular role after all these years. The series will tell the story of a princess who must undertake a great journey to rescue her brother from the clutches of evil. The titular Willow and a party of warrior companions are alongside for the adventure.
And what a grand adventure it looks like it will be! While the original Willow (1988) had a relatively limited budget, Willow (2022) has the full might of Disney+ behind it. And it shows. Gone are the cheesy effects, and in their place, a glamorous high fantasy realm that escalates the look of the show to be more akin to Lord Of The Rings rather than Xena: Warrior Princess. The new series will recapture the magic that the original film brought to the big screen. It will explore that fantastical world in an all-new way like audiences have never seen before.
In addition to Warwick Davis, Willow (2022) stars Ruby Cruz (Mare Of Easttown), Erin Kellyman (Solo), Tony Revolori (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Rosabell Laurenti Sellers (Game Of Thrones), Ellie Bamber (The Nutcracker And The Four Realms), Dempsey Bryk (The Silence), Amar Chadha-Patel (Doom: Annihilation), and Ralph Ineson (The Witch).
The series will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on November 30, 2022!
