Harrison Ford Drops First Look At ‘Indiana Jones 5’

The Indiana Jones franchise is by and far one of the most iconic film series in the history of the medium. It managed to become so with just a handful of films. In the last 41 years since the premiere of the first film in the series, Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1981), we have only seen three movies added to the franchise. Now, as the series star Harrison Ford reaches well past the point of standard “action star” status at 79, he is returning for (what we assume will be) one last adventure with the currently untitled Indiana Jones 5

Ford made an appearance at the Lucasfilm panel during Star Wars Celebration 2022 to announce that Indiana Jones 5 has almost completed filming and that the film will be released in theaters on June 30th, 2023. While no story details have been revealed, the new release date announcement was accompanied by a single still image from the film, which you can check out below!

Ford was also pleased to announce that he was not the only one returning for the fifth film in the franchise, as legendary composer John Williams would also be returning to score the film. Williams previously wrote the original musical score for every movie in the Indiana Jones series, so it is great news to hear he will be back.
Not returning (at least in full capacity) is director Steven Spielberg. While Spielberg directed the first four Indiana Jones films, he has handed the reigns to James Mangold for this latest entry. Mangold will direct and co-write the script alongside Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth. Steven Spielberg remains on board the project in a producer capacity, alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel.
In addition to Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones 5 features an ensemble cast including Antonio Banderas, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Boyd Holbrook, Mads Mikkelsen, and Shaunette Renee Wilson. There is no word as to what other familiar faces from the franchise’s history may turn up (though it seems unlikely we will be hearing from Shia Lebeouf’s Mutt Williams again anytime soon).
