Marvel dropped the first teaser for Thor: Love and Thunder this morning, and it picks up right where the God of Thunder was at the last time we saw him in the MCU. That is to say, not at the top of his game. Still rolling with the Guardians of the Galaxy, he is broken emotionally from the events of Endgame, and it is reflected in his physical health.
The trailer focuses on Thor’s journey back to his old self. But while finding his way back to his magnificent form, he finds himself questioning who he is. And he does so with some advice from Peter ‘Star Lord’ Quill (Chris Pratt), backed by some rocking music from Guns ‘N Roses.

Much like director Taika Waititi’s previous outing with the Odinson, it appears that this will be another big, loud, and colorful adventure. It doesn’t look like it will be short on character and drama either. Waititi presents a story that lives up to the fun and engaging stories inspired by great comics. However, this is just a tease for the upcoming summer blockbuster. There was a lot we didn’t get to see, including Christian Bale’s MCU debut as Gorr, the God Butcher.
Along with the release of the trailer, Marvel also gave an updated synopsis for the film:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey, unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
