Get ready to boldly go back to where quite a few people have gone but in a new way. Paramount+ has dropped the trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a spinoff from Star Trek: Discovery and a prequel to the original series.
This series will follow the exploits of Captain Christopher Pike, played by Anson Mount, and the crew of the starship Enterprise ten years before James T. Kirk assumed command. Strange New Worlds also stars Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley, Pike’s #1, and Ethan Peck as a young Mr. Spock. All three debuted their roles on Discovery and went on to appear in episodes of Star Trek: Short Treks. Fans were quite taken by these characters/actors and it was only a matter of time before Paramount+ gave them their own series.
Meet The Strange New Worlds‘ Enterprise Crew
As it turns out, Spock isn’t the only crew member of the O.G. series that will appear in Strange New Worlds. Jess Bush will portray Nurse Christine Chapel, Celia Rose Gooding plays Cadet Nyota Uhura, and Babs Olusanmokun will play Dr. M’Benga.
In addition, Christina Chong will portray La’an Noonien-Singh, who clearly has a familial relationship to the most famous Trek villain of all time, Khan. Judging by the trailer, however, La’an will serve as Spock’s love interest. Also part of the regular cast is Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortega. Bruce Horak will recur as a character called Hemmer.

Paramount+ has a lot of confidence in Strange New Worlds. It has already been renewed for a second season and it has been announced that Paul Wesley will portray a young James T. Kirk.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres on Paramount+ on May 5. The first season consists of ten episodes.
