In a year when the first movie made for a streaming service — Apple TV+’s CODA— won the Academy Award for Best Picture, it was another streaming release that swept the Golden Raspberry Awards, also known as the Razzies. Diana: The Musical, a filmed version of a flop Broadway musical, scored the most nominations for 2022’s Razzies. These awards for the worst films of the year are annually given out just prior to the Oscars, which honor the best.
Not only did Diana have the most nominations going into the night, but it also took home the most “wins” — Worst Picture, Worst Actress for Jeanna de Waal, Worst Supporting Actress for Judy Kaye, Worst Director for Christopher Ashley, and Worst Screenplay.
Coming in second was a more high-profile release. Space Jam: A New Legacy was named Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel, while LeBron James was named Worst Actor. Worst Onscreen Couple went to “LeBron James & Any Warner Cartoon Character (or Time-Warner Product) He Dribbles on.”
Jared Leto was announced as Worst Supporting Actor for House of Gucci.
This year’s Razzies added a special category: Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie. Unfortunately, this former A-Lister who starred in some true classics like Pulp Fiction and The Sixth Sense has suddenly just started cranking out roles in low-budget action schlock that is mainly aimed at the European market. The actor was up against himself for his work in American Siege, Apex, Deadlock, Fortress, Midnight in the Switchgrass, Out of Death, and Survive the Game (remember those?), but it was his role in Cosmic Sin that took home the “honor” of the Razzie.
