Since Disney purchased the Muppets back in 2004, they’ve tried numerous times to make a go of the famous puppets. Between two theatrical films and a handful of television appearances, nothing quite stuck. But this hasn’t stopped Disney as they’re taking another chance on the franchise, one pitched by Adam F. Goldberg.

Best known for the hit ABC series The Goldbergs, Adam F. Goldberg with write and co-executive produce a new series titled The Muppets Mayhem. The series will focus on the rise of the Electric Mayhem Band and the tribulations they face trying to record their first album.

It’s Time To Play The Music

The Electric Mayhem Band is the fictional band set in the Muppets world consisting of Dr. Teeth, Floyd Pepper, Janice, and Animal, among others. Lilly Singh, a former YouTuber and recent host of A Little Late with Lilly Singh, is set to star in the series. Singh has also had roles in other media, including a recurring appearance in the Hulu series Dollface and has appeared alongside Michael B. Jordan in 2018’s adaptation of Fahrenheit 451.

The Muppets Mayhem comes on the heels of this past Halloween’s Muppets Haunted Mansion, which reimagined the famous theme park ride. The 1-hour special was well-received by fans, which likely bolstered Disney’s confidence to jumpstart yet another series.

Working alongside Goldberg is Muppets alum Bill Baretta, who has been a producer and voice talent on various Muppets projects since the mid-90s after Jim Henson’s death, and Jeff Yorkes, who will act as co-executive producer and writer on The Muppets Mayhem.

Disney+ has ordered ten episodes of the series. Plot details are not yet available. There also is no release date set for the show yet, but it is set to begin filming in April.

What are your thoughts on the latest Muppets foray? Are you looking forward to the origin of Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Band, or will this just be another lost and forgotten series starring America’s favorite puppets?
