‘Gotham Knights’ Come Out Swinging To The CW

Source: DC Comics

It looks like we are getting another Bat-family series. Entertainment Weekly learned that the CW network is developing Gotham Knights series. Gotham Knights follows “Bruce Wayne’s rebellious adopted son in the wake of Bruce’s murder. He’s forced to forge an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies after they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader.”

The Gotham Knights also won’t be seen as heroes in the city. This “renegade band of misfits” is trying to clear their names of Batman’s murder. Even with the help of one of the Bat-family, it won’t be easy.  Without a Batman, Gotham becomes even more dangerous.  The Knights will have to rise up and out of the shadows of their dubious parents.

It is not even clear which of Bruce’s adopted sons the series will include, Dick, Jason, Tim, or even Terry McGinnis.  Since the description specifically says “adopted” son, it rules out Damian Wayne running the team. But that doesn’t mean that any or all of Batman’s sons could appear in the series. It is just starting development, and there is no casting or even specific characters named for the series.

The Batwoman team of Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux (The Vampire Diaries, Gotham), along Natalie Abrams (Batwoman, Supergirl, All American) serve as headwriters and showrunners. Despite their pedigree, Gotham Knights will not be a spinoff of the Batwoman series, nor will it connect to the upcoming Gotham Knights video game.

It is not clear, as of yet, how it will fit into the growing DC/CW Multiverse. Besides Batwoman, the Batfamily already features heavily in HBOMax’s Titans series, and there is also a Batman/Gotham PD series in development for the premium streamer. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden are attached as executive producers. Berlanti has been the architect of the Arrowverse, along with just about every other DC television and streaming series in the past 10 years.
