Daniel Dae Kim has joined the cast of Avatar: The Last Airbender in the role of Fire Lord Ozai, one of the series’ main villains and the father of Prince Zuko, who will be played by Dallas Liu. Here is the character’s description:

“Fire Lord Ozai, the ruthlessly driven leader of the Fire Nation… demands that everyone live up to his impossible standards, especially his teenage son, Prince Zuko. Ozai’s drive to conquer and unite the world under firebender rule is a family burden — he believes that it’s his destiny to finish a war started by his ancestors.”

Kim is actually re-joining the Avatar franchise, as he provided the voice for General Fog on the original animated series and Hiroshi Sato on the spinoff series The Legend of Kora.

Liu’s casting was announced in August, along with the rest of the young main cast– Gordon Cormier as Ang, Kiawentiio as Katara, and Ian Ousley as Sokka.

Albert Kim serves as showrunner, executive producer, and writer. Michael Goi, Roseanne Liang, Jabbar Raisani, and Jet Wilkinson are directing, with Liang also acting as executive producer.

Daniel Dae Kim is a familiar face on TV, having gained notice for Lost before going on to star for seven seasons on Hawaii Five-O. He also recently recurred on the NBC medical series New Amsterdam and previously appeared on The Good Doctor. He will next be seen on Nat Geo’s The Hot Zone: Anthrax which premieres on November 28. His voice will be heard in AMC’s upcoming high-concept adult animated series Pantheon.

On the big screen, he was seen in the Divergent movies, the remake of Hellboy, and his voice was heard in Raya and the Last Dragon.
