The family-friendly 1993 Halloween classic Hocus Pocus is a scary good time that seems to only be getting better with age. While it wasn’t quite the hit Disney had hoped when it was first released nearly three decades ago, the film has increased in popularity year after year as new generations of viewers discover the magical experience that Hocus Pocus provides around the Halloween season. Maybe that’s why after all these years Disney has finally announced formal plans for a sequel!
Appropriately, Disney has announced this Halloween that Hocus Pocus 2 is officially set to premiere on the Disney+ subscription streaming service in the fall of 2022! While story details are currently unknown, Disney has confirmed the return of the original film’s stars, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, as the three troublesome Sanderson Sisters.
Also confirmed to return from the original film is the legendary character actor Doug Jones. Jones famously portrayed the zombie Billy Butcherson in the first Hocus Pocus film, which was a breakout role for the young actor and one of his earliest film roles. While Doug Jones is set to return for this new sequel, we do not yet know if the actor will be returning as Billy Butcherson or as an all-new character entirely. He is well known for working under heavy prosthetics after all!
All of these returning stars will be joined by plenty of fresh faces including Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Hannah Waddingham, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Paige Henderson, and Nina Kitchen.
While fans are hopeful we at least see some cameo appearances, there is currently no word on whether we may see the return of the rest of the original film’s stars Omri Katz, Thora Birch, Vinessa Shaw, or Jason Marsden’s Binx the cat.
Hocus Pocus 2 is set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in the Fall of 2022!
