New Trailer For ‘Hawkeye’ On Disney+ Brings The Holiday Cheer

We’ve already gone a couple of weeks since the end of Marvel’s What If…? on Disney+ without a Marvel-themed show, but thankfully that drought will be ending soon with the start of Hawkeye. And the timing couldn’t be more perfect considering the show’s setting, which you can see in the latest teaser trailer.

The minute-long teaser is jam packed with visuals from the show nodding to its holiday theme. In addition to the quirky brass rendition of “Deck the Halls,” there are plenty of shots from different areas of New York City’s festiveness, like the tree in Rockefeller Center, a wreath above Grand Central Terminal, and a plethora of string lights everywhere.

The trailer also confirms that the series will draw heavily from the iconic Hawkeye comic series by Matt Fraction and David Aja. In the series, Hawkeye, Clint Barton, runs afoul of some local New York based mobsters and relies heavily on Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, to help him out. Though many fans assumed that this was the case at first, especially once Hailee Steinfeld was announced to be playing Kate Bishop, the tracksuited mobsters in the trailer really brought the similarities to light.

What I liked most about the latest Hawkeye trailer is now much fun the series looks. Jeremy Renner has really owned the character of Hawkeye, almost to the same level as Robert Downey Jr brought Tony Stark to life, and I’m excited for Clint to finally break free from the Avengers ago go off on his own.

And most of this can likely be attributed to Fraction and Aja, who crafted a lighthearted, fun series for Marvel Studios to draw from. Though the previous Disney+ series, WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki, all had their humorous moments, Hawkeye appears to be on its own level. (I mean, there’s a scene of Clint and Kate LARPing!)

I’m also a huge fan of the holiday setting of the series. It seems that Christmas plays into the plot slight, with Clint making promises to (we assume) his wife over the phone that he’ll be home for Christmas, but I’m looking forward to seeing if there’s more to it than a simple theme of “spending the holidays with family.” It will also be interesting to find out how the events of Black Widow have an impact on the series as will.

Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Florence Pugh, and Vera Farmiga, and the first two episodes of the series premiere on Disney+ on November 24th.
