‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ International Trailer Reveals New Footage

Logan Kim and Mckenna Grace in Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Sony

Many people disliked the 2016 Ghostbusters movie with Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon because it was set in another universe where the original movie never happened. The 2016 version recycled a little from the original, including the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man to name just one thing. But it seems that Sony is going back to basics with Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Not only is Ghostbusters: Afterlife set within the same universe as the first two movies, but they are bringing back elements from them including Gozer the Gozerian, the Terror Dogs, and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, in this case, reduced to a cute tiny size and multiplied.  (It worked for Baby Groot and Baby Yoda, right?)

A few big differences are shifting the events to a small midwestern town and placing kids in the lead roles. Mckenna Grace plays Phoebe and Finn Wolfhard plays Trevor, the grandkids of Egon Spengler, the brainy scientist played by Harold Ramis in the originals. They are joined by Podcast (Logan Kim) and Lucky (Celeste O’Connor). The adult cast includes Carrie Coon as Phoebe and Trevor’s mother and Egon’s daughter, Callie, and Paul Rudd as Phoebe’s science teacher, Mr. Grooberson, who happens to be a Ghostbusters fanboy.

The new international trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife has just been released and features a load of new footage that hasn’t been seen in previous clips. You can check it out below:

Though not shown in the trailer, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will feature cameos by Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroyd as Dr. Raymond Stantz, Ernie Hudson as Dr. Winston Zeddemore, Sigourney Weaver as Dana Barrett, and Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz. Potts was seen in a previous trailer, but it isn’t yet clear whether she married Egon and is Callie’s mother. (Some have seen the finished movie, but I haven’t, so it’s still a mystery.)

After numerous delays due to COVID-19, fans can finally check out Ghostbusters: Afterlife when it opens in the U.S. on November 19, 2021.
