Patty Jenkins Confirms ‘Wonder Woman 3’

It should come as no surprise, but there will be a third solo Wonder Woman movie. This confirmation came from director Patty Jenkins, who helmed both existing WW flicks, as part of the Warner Bros. DC FanDome event.  Jenkins took part in a Q&A with Lynda Carter, the star of the original 1970s Wonder Woman TV series, who made a cameo in a post-credits scene as a rogue Amazon named Asteria.

During the conversation, Jenkins declared:

“We’re super excited about Wonder Woman 3.  Gal, who is so bummed not to be here, who is the busiest person in the world with now three little kids and shooting, she’s so bummed not to be able to be here. But we are all three very excited about some exciting things coming up with Wonder Woman 3.”

Carter added:

“Who would have thought in my life at this time in my life that this gift would just present itself to me, and that’s so cool.”

Both women were careful to not spill too many beans, but it sounds as though fans can expect Asteria to pop up again.

Following this event, DC Comics publisher Jim Lee posted this tweet:

2019’s Wonder Woman made $822.3 million on a budget of approximately $150 million, and was, at that time, the most critically acclaimed DCEU movie. COVID-19 derailed the release of the sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, which was released on HBO Max, resulting in only making $166.5 million at the box office on a budget of $200 million. On top of that, WW 1984 was not well-received by critics or viewers. The 1980s-set film seemed to have lost some of the magic of the first installment.

Until more details are revealed about Wonder Woman 3, fans can look forward to a new project from Carter.  As part of the conversation with Jenkins, she stated:

“It’s so much more than a comic book character it is an idea and an essence.  As a matter of fact, I wrote a song for you and for Gal, based on an original lyric I had started for my husband but when I did your movie I finished writing this song that comes out in October actually called ‘Human and Divine,’ and it’s about the love of Wonder Woman.”

Check back for updates on Wonder Woman 3 as they arrive.  Are you excited for another adventure from Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot?
