The Peacemaker’s adventures continue and HBO Max has released the first full trailer for the series. John Cena as the Peacemaker spins off onto his own show in the next big DC superhero series for HBO Max. And Like James Gunn’s take on the DC super team, this ain’t a Disney streaming show. The entire eight-episode series was written by Gunn, and he directs 5 of the 8 installments. That should tell you a lot about what to expect from the series.
Cena has gotten rave reviews for his portrayal of the would-be superhero. And news of his spinoff came almost as soon as he was cast for the movie. He is joined by fellow The Suicide Squad stars Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland as John Economos and Emilia Harcourt. They both play major roles in Peacemaker’s new team. Economos serves as tech and tactics and Harcourt is Peacemaker’s handler.
They’ll be joined by new cast members Freddie Stroma as Vigilante (another somewhat obscure DC character with a crazy backstory), Robert Patrick as Peacemaker’s father Auggie, Danielle Brooks as fellow recruit Leota Adebayo, and Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn, the head of the team.
For those of you who aren’t familiar, Peacemaker was created by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette for Charlton Comics in 1966. Peacemaker is Christopher Smith, a US diplomat who loves peace so much, he’s willing to kill for it. DC acquired the character in the 1980s, along with other Charlton heroes Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, Nightshade, and the Question among others. They were all, in part, the inspiration for the characters from The Watchmen, created by Alan Moore. Peacemaker was the basis for the Comedian.
The Peacemaker series isn’t the only show from HBO Max making news at the DC Fandome. Both Titans and Doom Patrol received Season 4 pick-ups. The animated hit series Young Justice: Phantoms was also showcased at the fan event.
