As per usual, the upcoming season of American Horror Story is shrouded in mystery, but FX has released a trailer that at least sheds a little light on what viewers can expect.  It is known that there will be two separate stories this year, one set in the sand (“Death Valley”) and one in the surf (“Red Tide”).  It appears that the sand story will include aliens (previously utilized in Season 2, “Asylum”) and the surf tale will involve sirens, the legendary inspirations for mermaids, who lured sailors to their deaths.  This season is set in, and was filmed in, Provincetown, MA.  Earlier footage teased that this story would also include the local urban legend of the “Black Flash,” a tall dark humanoid figure that was sighted in the area in the early part of the 20th century.

American Horror Story: Double Feature welcomes back cast members Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Finn Wittrock, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, Adina Porter, Angelica Ross, Denis O’Hare, Matt Bomer, and John Carroll Lynch.  In addition, Macaulay Culkin makes his AHS debut alongside Neal McDonough.

A struggling writer, his pregnant wife, and their daughter move to an isolated beach town for the winter.  Once they’re settled in, the town’s true residents begin to make themselves known.

Check out the new trailer below.  Note, this trailer is just for the “Red Tide” portion:

If you are a regular watcher of AHS, you know that MOST seasons are made up of more than one storyline, so this is no big change.  Also, Ryan Murphy and company don’t quite stick the landing when it comes to delivering multiple stories.  Maybe by dividing this season cleanly into two stories will lead to a better result than “Apocalypse” or “1984.”

Are you ready for more fright?  If so, American Horror Story: Double Feature debuts on FX on Wednesday, August 25 at 10/9c.
