FX has renewed What We Do in the Shadows for a fourth season – before the third season has premiered! The new season arrives on Thursday, September 2, and FX is releasing two episodes back-to-back– ”The Prisoner” and “The Cloak of Duplication.”  All episodes will be available the next day on FX on Hulu.

President of Original Programming at FX Entertainment, Nick Grad, announced:

“Fans can’t seem to get enough of What We Do in the Shadows and FX is ready to feed that appetite by setting up the series for a fourth season.  Our thanks to the extraordinary job by the creative team, cast, and crew who keep making a great show better each season.”

What We Do in the Shadows is based on the 2014 film of the same name, co-written and directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. Like the film, the TV series is a mockumentary that follows the lives of a group of vampires living in the modern world. Whereas the film was set in New Zealand, the TV series takes place in New York City.  Clement developed the TV series, with both he and Waititi writing and directing multiple episodes.

The series stars Kayvan Novak as Nandor, Matt Berry as Laszlo, Natasia Demetriou as Nadja, Harvey Guillén as Nandor’s human familiar, Guillermo, and Mark Proksch as energy vampire Colin Robinson. Season 2 revealed that Guillermo, whose greatest desire is to become a vampire, is secretly descended from the Van Helsing bloodline, making him a powerful vampire slayer.

There have been 10 episodes of each season, including the upcoming third. Over the course of its first two seasons, What We Do in the Shadows has been nominated for 10 Emmy Awards, among other honors.

One change is that Scott Rudin, who has served as executive producer since the show began, will no longer be affiliated with What We Do in the Shadows, following allegations of “systemic abuse” which emerged in April.
