Between the COVID-19 pandemic and an already longer than usual production cycle, it’s been quite a while since our last visit to Hawkins, Indiana. And with the long-awaited fourth season of Stranger Things not expected until sometime next year, it’s going to be a while longer yet. But it’s safe to say we’re closer to the end of that wait than the beginning, as evidenced by the recent release of a new teaser.
When it aired back in 2019, the end of the third season represented something of a seismic shift for the series. While prior seasons had ended on some sort of cliffhanger, the third upended the established status quo with Eleven de-powered, the Byers family leaving Hawkins, and Hopper apparently dead (though his survival was implied in a post-credits scene, and has subsequently been confirmed in early teases and other promotional materials for the fourth season).
But what does this latest teaser bring to the table? Presented in the style of a montage focused on Eleven, it consists largely of footage from prior seasons. What new footage there is certainly paints an intriguing picture, but it doesn’t end there. In addition to the footage, there is a brief voice-over in which Eleven can be heard saying, “Something’s coming. It is almost here.” Given the defeat and (apparent) death of the Mind Flayer last season, that’s not at all ominous.
Of course, in true Stranger Things fashion, we’re left with more questions than answers. I’ll leave it to you to puzzle out the potential significance of all of this for yourself. The teaser can be found here:
