“Yaaaaaas!”: Billy Porter And Camila Cabello Shimmer In The Trailer For Amazon’s ‘Cinderella’

Roughly a month before the film’s release, Amazon Prime Video has released a new trailer for Cinderella, a modern retelling of the classic fairy tale which has been adapted numerous times, perhaps most famously by Disney, which has created three separate interpretations.

The film stars pop singer Camila Cabello in her film acting debut in the lead role. Though she may be a newcomer to acting, she is surrounded by an all-star cast of veterans including Idina Menzel as her stepmother, Vivian, Pierce Brosnan as King Rowan, Minnie Driver as Queen Beatrice, James Corden as a footman, and Billy Porter as her “faaaaaaabulous Fairy Godmother” a.k.a. Fab G.  Nicholas Galitzine (Netflix’s Chambers) plays Prince Robert.

This is an irreverent take with modern pop songs (Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation” and Queen’s “Somebody to Love” are heard in the trailer; also listen out for reinterpretations of “Material Girl,” “Shining Star,” “Whatta Man”/”Seven Nation Army,” “Perfect,” and “Let’s Get Loud”) and humor.

Fab G: “Do you want to go to that ball, and meet a bunch of rich people who will change your life?”
Cinderella: “Yes, I was just crying and singing about it like two minutes ago.”

But this is also a modern take, with Ella being an aspiring businesswoman with a knack for designing clothes. She views the ball as more of a business networking opportunity than a chance to meet a husband. But hey, if she gets one of those too, what the heck?

In addition, Amazon released a new poster for Cinderella depicting Cabello and Galitzine:

Cabello’s big break came as a contestant on The X Factor, on which she was partnered with fellow contestants, Ally Brooke, Normani, Lauren Jauregui, and Dinah Jane, as the group Fifth Harmony. The group scored two Top Ten hits, with Cabello departing in 2016. She has scored a string of solo hit songs since and her first solo album, Camila, debuted at #1.  She has been nominated for two Grammys among other accolades. She won Video of the Year (for “Havana”) and Artist of the Year at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards.

Cinderella was written and directed by Kay Cannon who penned all three Pitch Perfect flicks and directed the 2018 film Blockers. In addition to co-starring, James Corden also serves as a producer.

Cinderella debuts on Amazon Prime Video on September 3.
