With a Green Lantern Corps streaming series in development, you’d think the long-in-development film would be put on hold. But it seems that John Stewart fans may have a reason to charge up their rings and get ready to recite the oath. At least that’s what we hear from comic book movie site, Heroic Hollywood. We just reported on the HBO Max series finding their Guy Gardner. That series will focus on several members of the fabled ringbearers, but not the three most well-known human members, Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Kyle Rayner.
That news upset comic Lantern fans, especially fans of Stewart. After all, he is the Lantern that many Millennials grew up with on shows like Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. Fans took to social media to express their frustration with Warner Brothers, but now Stewart fans have reason to smile.
An “insider” has told Heroic Hollywood the Green Lantern Corps film is still in development. Plans for that film have Stewart as the film’s main Green Lantern. Other Lanterns, including Hal Jordan, will appear in smaller roles. (Jordan will serve as a mentor character.)
Longtime Green Lantern writer, and one time DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns was originally tapped to write the ensemble film. No word if he will still pen the script for Green Lantern Corps. Johns was one of several writers credited on the 2011 Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern film. We all remember how that came out.
As recently reported, Wayne T Carr filmed a scene as John Stewart for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Warner Brothers axed his appearance, apparently because of this Green Lantern Corps project.
