The Killmonger actor’s name has been on the top of fans’ list to play the Man of Steel since the JJ Abrams/Ta-Nahisi Coats Superman project was announced. Michael B. Jordan signed a development deal in 2019 with Warner Brothers with a project like this in mind. But to this point, no actor has been attached to the role.
During a recent interview with Jake Hamilton to promote his new Amazon film, Without Remorse, the host asked Jordan about those Superman rumors:
No, I mean I… You hear the whispers and the rumors and stuff like that and it’s just a compliment, you know. I appreciate people that think about me in that type of way for these roles… I don’t really have anything more to give on that other than it’s just flattering and I appreciate it. But, you know, whoever they get or if it goes that way, I think it’ll be an interesting thing to see.
With Warner Brothers taking a new Multiverse approach to their DC film properties, Jordan may portray Superman. He could either play Earth 2’s Val-Zod or Earth 23’s President Superman Calvin Ellis. He could even portray a new version of Clark Kent, sharing a world with Robert Pattinson’s Batman. They could exist alongside the versions of DC characters in the ‘Snyder-verse’ and whatever they become following next year’s Flash feature film.
It does sound like if offered the chance, he’d be down to put on the big red S. That is, if he can find the time in his already busy schedule. He is already working on a third Creed film. He also has the Wrong Answer, scripted by Ta-Nahisi Coats, in development, among other projects. If he does, he will join a select club of actors to play live-action roles in both the DC and Marvel Universes.
