Experience The First Seven Minutes Of ‘Mortal Kombat’ (2021)

Scorpion Mortal Kombat 2021
Warner Bros

Mortal Kombat is only 3 days away, and Warner Bros has shared the first few bloody minutes with the world.

(Note this is definitely not safe for younger viewers and features some thematic content that may be disturbing.)

This is quite an impressive opening, with some gorgeous cinematography and dramatic action.

The clip opens with the story that has been told many times in many different media formats of Hanzo Hasahi of the Japanese Shirai Ryu clan being ambushed by Bi-Han of the Chinese Lin Kui clan.

This takes place well before most of the films and video games in the 1800s. We see the last of the Hanzo bloodline extinguished in cold blood by the Cryomancer Bi-Han (Sub Zero).

I have to say that while this is an extremely violent and disturbing scene, it manages to pull you in emotionally. This is also a good entry point on the backstory on the eternal feud between Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

I am happy to report that if the fight scenes in the full film are anything close to this, we are in for a treat. The combat is easy to follow and though frantically paced, we know who is who and where they are.
Regular readers know how excited I am for the new movie, and the way that this scene was handled bodes quite well. The filmmakers could have went with a more disturbing end to Hanzo’s family but thankfully the worst was done off-screen. When you put innocent victims in the film, it takes skill to not be exploitative.

What do you think of this first seven minutes? Is it worth the weeklong wait from the original release date?

Sound off below and let us know how you plan to enter the world of Mortal Kombat.
