Dave Bautista is tired of fans calling him ugly. Well, in a roundabout way. The actor who first gained fame for playing Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy (not counting his massive career as a WWE wrestler) has noticed that on social media, folks tend to “fancast” him in stereotypical roles and those roles are… kinda unbecoming.

Most recently, a fan dream cast him as Kilowog from the Green Lantern mythos. It doesn’t appear that Bautista was amused.

“Ok I know I’m not the best looking guy in the world but how come whenever I’m fan cast as a character it’s always one that’s ummmm…. aesthetically challenged?! This is probably why I can’t get that rom-com lead!”

In case you’re not familiar, this is what Kilowog looks like in the comics:

This is how he appeared in the 2011 Green Lantern movie:

I’m not quite sure how Kilowog was rendered in the Green Lantern movie. The late great Michael Clark Duncan provided his voice but did not supply a motion-capture performance.  So I’m not sure if someone else did provide a mo-cap performance– if so, they weren’t credited– or if they just used props and CGI-ed Kilowog in post-production.

So, to be honest, it really doesn’t matter who plays Kilowog since he will be rendered mostly in CG  Then again, CG has come a long way. Just look at Josh Brolin as Thanos.  Whoever they cast, just don’t call Dave Bautista.

A Green Lantern Corps movie is in development at Warner Bros., as is a Green Lantern-related TV series for HBO Max. For a time, it appeared that Green Lantern Corps had been scrapped in favor of the show, but at the beginning of this month, The Hollywood Reporter briefly mentioned that the film was still in the works. The film is expected to focus on Hal Jordan and John Stewart and to connect to the TV series. The HBO Max show will reportedly focus on multiple other human GLs, including Alan Scott, Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, and Simon Baz.

Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim are writing the TV series, and Grahame-Smith will serve as showrunner. Berlanti Productions will produce in association with Warner Bros. Television.

As for Dave Bautista, he will next be seen in Zack Snyder’s zombie heist flick Army of the Dead which drops on Netflix on May 21. After that, he is part of the ensemble cast of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, which will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on October 1.  He will apparently not be in either Green Lantern Corps or HBO Max’s Green Lantern series.
