Since his breakout role in Gossip Girl, Sebastian Stan has been popping up everywhere. Most notably, the actor is responsible for bringing James “Bucky” Barnes AKA The Winter Soldier from the pages of Marvel Comics to the big screen. Although, that isn’t his only role in a Disney-owned property. You may remember him in ABC’s Once Upon A Time as a reimagined Mad Hatter named Jefferson. And if his fans have their way, he’ll complete the Disney hat trick by appearing in a Star Wars project at some point. But not just in any old part. Many are calling for him to be Luke Skywalker.
While promoting The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Good Morning America, Stan was asked to share his thoughts on this popular fancast that placed him in the shoes of the galaxy’s most famous farm boy. While the query certainly made him smile, the Marvel Cinematic Universe star doesn’t exactly see that in the cards for himself. But one phone call from the originator might change his mind:
Sebastian Stan on rumors of him playing a young Luke Skywalker in #StarWars: "If @HamillHimself calls me personally to tell me that he feels inclined to share this role with me then I'll believe it." ?https://t.co/i9rZzYvW4s pic.twitter.com/MvftVLlcLk

Based on his response on GMA, it doesn’t sound like Sebastian Stan believes that Mark Hamill would actually call him to pass the lightsaber. Little does he know, the OG Master Skywalker has been adding fuel to this fire for years. For example, Hamill sent out this tweet in 2017:
Sorry to disappoint you but I refuse to say "Sebastian Stan-I AM YOUR FATHER!" (even though, in fact, I am) ? #SorryNotSorry #MySonSebastian pic.twitter.com/A6e4t6GkXC

Then in 2018, the Star Wars icon sent out a lovely birthday greeting:
Wishing Sebastian Stan the happiest of birthdays.? I'm beginning to believe he might actually BE my son, cuz just like @NathanHamill & @GriffinHamill, he never calls…he never writes…C'mon kids- would it kill ya to drop your old man a line? #Ingrates? pic.twitter.com/T0zGyVOYBm

However, when the time had come to actually see a young Luke show up on The Mandalorian, it was Hamill reprising the role on Disney+ with the help of some CGI magic. This worked great for a short (and very awesome) cameo, but with the hefty slate of Star Wars programming coming our way, could this mean that there might be more for the Jedi Master to do in future appearances? If so, might they enlist Stan to make this dream casting a reality? After all, Luke is Grogu’s master, so he and Din Djarin will have to cross paths again, right?
Well, whether this comes to fruition or not, it’s still fun to speculate. How would you feel if Sebastian Stan stepped into the role of Luke Skywalker? Could you see this happening in the second season of The Mandalorian or one of the many other Star Wars shows in the pipeline at Disney+? Let us know in the comments.
