DC Comics Announces New Robin: It’s Actually A Bird This Time

In a bold move, DC Comics has announced an all-new Robin will be joining Batman in his battle against injustice. This time, though, a new sort of hero is taking flight! That’s right, the new Robin is an actual bird. Specifically, the new Robin will be an actual Robin.

The Dark Knight has had several sidekicks over the years. Plenty of people have served under the Robin mantle, and Batman has had quite a few different animal companions fighting by his side including Ace The Bat-Hound and Bat-Cow (yes, Bat-Cow really happened), but this would be the first time that the two had crossed paths to give Batman an actual Robin from the animal kingdom.

This change comes as part of DC Comics’ larger initiative to rebrand themselves as the comic company that is just kind of throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. This has been an ongoing initiative since it first kicked off back in 2011 with the launch of The New 52 era of DC Comics.

When asked for comment on these new changes for Batman’s most famous sidekick, DC Comics Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee said:

Oh, Robin is literally a bird now? Is that what we’re doing? A bird? Yeah okay. I think that probably sounds right… but don’t quote me on it.

The new Robin is set to debut in an upcoming one-shot titled ‘Batman: Birds Of A Feather’ which will see the world’s greatest detective pairing up with his new avian sidekick to take down a new villain named The Worm who is abducting the local Gotham wildlife.

That’s about as far as this gag can go. We apologize this wasn’t funnier, but it is what it is.

Happy April Fools Day from the team at Geek Anything!
