An image of Obi_wan Kenobi, holding a lightsaberStar Wars fans will be thrilled to hear Disney has finally announced the main cast for the much-anticipated upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi limited TV series. It was previously reported Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as the Jedi Master, while the news today confirms Hayden Christensen will also reprise his role as Darth Vader.

The series, which will be available exclusively on Disney+, is set 10 years after the end of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, after the battle between Jedi Master and apprentice on Mustafar that left Anakin maimed and burned next to a lava flow. Remembering Obi-Wan’s last words to his former apprentice as he took his lightsaber and left him to die leads one to wonder just what their reunion will look like on the show.

You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness!” – Obi Wan Kenobi
“I
hate you!” – Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader
“You were my
brother, Anakin; I loved you.”  – Obi Wan Kenobi

Casting director Carmen Cuba has so far added these talented names to the roster of the show: Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Joel Edgerton, and Bonnie Piesse (both from The Vow, but more importantly returning to the roles they last portrayed in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith), Kumail Nanjiani (Marvel’s The Eternals), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Rupert Friend (Homeland), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Sung Kang (Fast and the Furious franchise), Simone Kessell (Terra Nova) and Benny Safdie (the director of Uncut Gems).

Obi-Wan Kenobi is written by Joby Harold and directed by Deborah Chow, who directed two critically acclaimed episodes of The Mandalorian in Season One. The show also has a team of widely talented executive producers, including Ewan McGregor, Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, and Deborah Chow.

The new Obi-Wan Kenobi show will begin shooting in April 2021 with a planned premiere on Disney+ in 2022.
