Welcome to The Morning Inserts where we take the news that didn’t make the front page but are still worthy of your attention and insert them all in one place! Think of it as a potpourri of anything and everything newsworthy! So, let’s get started!

The End is Nye Over At Peacock

Bill Nye holding a sign saying BIll is Back

Bill Nye the Science Guy is back! The Peacock streaming service has greenlit a new show for Nye to host called The End is Nye. Along with talking about all the catastrophes that could decimate the Earth, Nye will also give advice on how to survive. Here’s the official description of the series:

“Each episode takes a hell-bent dive into the mystery and reality of its threats, from viruses to volcanoes, asteroids to authoritarianism, and climate change to chemical warfare. Every worldwide catastrophe is abundant with thrills but also hope and a way forward. THE END IS NYE offers a scientific blueprint for surviving anything that comes our way.”

No word on when production will begin on this new series or when it will premiere on Peacock. Let’s just hope it happens before an asteroid hits the planet… (Source: Variety)

Loved the game Frogger? Love it enough that you wish you could be IN the game?  Well, your dreams have been answered! Paramount+ is looking for contestants for a new game show called Frogger. The streaming service describes it as “a larger-than-life physical competition series based on the iconic 1980’s video game.” Along with having to run across a highway avoiding oncoming cars, contestants will have to maneuver other various obstacle courses like hopping over (hungry?) hippos or avoiding hidden trap doors in a game of hopscotch. Think you have what it takes to win that huge cash prize? Then apply here to be a contestant.  (Source: EW)

Amazon Releases Several Them Teasers & A Trailer

It’s not me, it’s you… well, really it’s Them. Amazon has released several teasers for their new horror anthology series Them. The series is set in the 50s and follows the Emorys, a Black family with two daughters who move to an all-white Los Angeles neighborhood in Compton. Here’s the full synopsis:

A Black family moves to an all-white Los Angeles neighborhood where malevolent forces, next door and otherworldly, threaten to taunt, ravage and destroy them.

According to Deborah Ayorinde who plays the mom, Lucky Emory:

“… our neighbors are not happy that we’re there. They begin to terrorize us in order to get us to go back to where we came from. All the while, there are these malicious supernatural entities that also don’t want us there. So, we’re fighting a lot of things.”

Check out the teasers and a full trailer below:

Them was created by Little Marvin and executive-produced by Lean Waithe. Along with Ayorinde, Season 1 stars Ashley Thomas, Melody Hurd, Shahadi Wright Joseph, and Alison Pill.

The show premieres on Amazon Prime on April 9. (Source: EW)

Halo Series Moves To Paramount+

Paramount+ is working hard to make itself a contender in the streaming wars. Not only are they developing a Dora the Explorer and Fairly Oddparents live-action series, but it also looks like they are continuing on the nostalgia kick and working hard to give you a reason to subscribe to them. This time they’re targeting the gamers.

If you haven’t already heard, the long (and I do mean loooonnngggg) awaited Halo series has moved from Showtime to Paramount+. Along with the move, the 10-episode series also has an updated synopsis:

Halo’s epic universe and cast of characters comes to life in this new original drama series…. Halo will take place in the universe that first came to be in 2001, dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future.

The series will debut on Paramount+ sometime in 2022, at least we hope it does. (Source: TV Line)

Don’t Mess With The Red Guardian

The COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench in planned movie releases but it is not going to stop David Harbour from teasing us that Black Widow is due to drop in theaters and on Disney+ later this year. Harbour posted this little photo of his character the Red Guardian in the middle of what looks to be a fight scene and it’s gotten us all excited! Take a look:

Roller Derby Comic ‘Slam!’ In The Works At HBO Max

DC Comics isn’t the only comics company HBO Max is dipping their creative fingers in. The streaming service is now developing an animated series based on the BOOM! Studios comic Slam!. Created by Pamela Ribon and Veronica Fish, the comic was based on Ribon’s years with the roller derby team the L.A. Derby Dolls.

Here’s the synopsis of the comics from Amazon:

In the fast-paced, hard-hitting, super cheeky, all-female world of banked track roller derby, two young women will have to decide if their budding friendship is stronger than the pull of a team when a win is on the line. When life starts coming at you like a freight train, you have two options: run away screaming or lean into the hit.

From the first day of Fresh Meat Orientation for the Eastside Roller Girls, Jennifer and Maisie knew they’d be fast friends. But when they’re drafted to different teams, the pull of competition — and their increasingly messy personal lives — threaten to drive them apart. In roller derby, you take your hits, get back up, and learn how to be a better jammer, a better blocker, a better lover, and a better friend. Derby can heal your heart…but it might break a bone or two in the process.

According to Deadline, the series will consist of half-hour shows that will be animated using rotoscoped and 3D animation, the same unique technique that is used on Amazon’s mind-bending series Undone.

No word on when the series will go into production or when it will premiere on HBO Max, but we will keep an eye on this project!

The Cat Is Out Of The Bag On ‘Supergirl’

She came. She purred (okay, roared). She conquered. Cat Grant returns to Supergirl… well, not exactly. When we last saw Cat, she left her media empire of CatCo to become a White House press secretary. While the character is returning for the sixth and final season of Supergirl, it won’t be Callista Flockhart in the role. TVLine is reporting that Eliza Helm has been tapped to play a younger version of Cat in back-to-back flashback episodes chronicling her rise from staff reporter to the woman she is now. Here is the official description:

“Eager to step out of Lois Lane’s shadow and out from under her boss Perry White’s thumb, Cat Grant chases a story all the way to Kara’s hometown of Midvale and the lead won’t go as planned. Instead, it will put her on the trajectory toward the Media Powerhouse we know and love as Cat Grant.”

“Prom Night” and “Prom Again”  premieres Tuesday, March 30, at 9/8c The CW.
